The Lemonade Stand
2025
An interactive endurance performance, with songs and dances, that uses play and absurdity to engage with embodiment, nourishment, sexuality, and the commodification of my own aging female body as I dress up in a lemon costume with spouts symbolically located where breasts, a uterus, and an anus would be.
Audiences become active participants as they tap my lemon form. Each spout disperses a different lemonade-flavored liquid, of color and taste; and the liquid's pairing with a body part reflects both the literal function of my privates as sites of release, as well as my own subjective experience of trauma and societal expectation.
Performed on June 21, 2025 at ROMAN SUSAN, and at The Franklin during Chicago Exhibition Weekend on September 21, 2025 where the liquids (and plumbing) were provided by Brutalist Brewing Cooperative, Chicago's first 100% worker-owned brewery.
